I’m keeping it. I’ll order another for HQ. I give you, the metric/standard bolt/nut thread checker. It’s goddamn gorgeous and joining the hallowed ranks of “AIM’s favorite tools”, alongside the 5" cordless angle grinder, the pocket hole jig and the belt sander.

Hartville tools, online. There are lot of cheaper ones, but this was the only one I found that had standard and metric on the same piece, was made from metal, and had lettering that wouldn’t wear off

Thanks, it seems expensive but use it a few times and that’s easily $65 worth of frustration saved!

37", just over 3 feet. Not unreasonable for that spread of sizes and thread pitches!

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's the same one! I was going to like ten different stores that had these types of things (for use, not sale) and the homedepot one was by far the best. I was about to make one but... Decided to just go the easier route.

Is the right side of that a cheat sheet for current capacity as a function of trace width on different weight copper boards? That’s awesome.

Oh, very nice!

Pocket hole jigs kick ass! I went ahead and ordered the $400 machine for my school shop last year. Worth every penny. I used to feel guilty for using them, because they're so dang easy it felt like cheating. When I finished remodeling our second floor some years ago, we bought very expensive American made furniture for it (I didn't have time to make it myself). Anyways, this very expensive, very well made stuff ... Is completely assembled with pocket screws. I don't feel guilty anymore.

I’ve been learning a lot of woodworking lately for work stuff. My boss has dabbled in a lot of hands-on trades (with software being the main gig) but he really has a passion for working with wood. It’s been great learning from him, and I think he’s been very happy to have someone to teach! But yeah, t he joining strength you get from wood glue and some pocket screws is unreal... Makes all my prior “woodwork” make me cringe

What is this $400 machine you’re talking about?

Oh, man, why can’t I star this post? That is a gorgeous tool and I’ve marked it for purchase for my garage or the nascent gearhead co-op I accidentally started today.

There’s one of those at the end of the fastener aisle at my local hardware store. Now I kind of want one so I don’t have to pull out my tap & die set to check threads on something.

I might get one of these to hang on the wall in the garage. Would be really handy to not have to eyeball it, then go through the hardware bin to confirm (and hope I have something on-hand the right size).
